US Vogue editor Anna Wintour ‘in line for diplomatic job’

By Jeffery Blyth

The rumours are swirling once again around Anna Wintour.

If they are to be believed the famous – and British born- editor of Vogue in the US may soon be giving up her job in journalism to be a diplomat.

The first lady of American fashion may soon be joining the Obama administration as an ambassador.

According to Fashion Week Daily, one of the bibles of the fashion industry, it could be Britain or France.

The fashion daily points out she is well suited for such a job. She has all the qualifications – flawless organisational skills, an enviable list of contacts, and business experience.

She is also an impeccable hostess and has for several years organised the annual Costume Institute gala in New York’s Metropolitan Museum.

She would, the paper points out, add a new layer of glitz and exclusivity to official affairs.

Her British background – her father, Charles Wintour, was the editor of The Evening Standard and briefly editor of Press Gazette – might give her an extra edge for the job in London, while her years of experience covering the French fashion industry might be of help in Paris.

So far there has been no official comment from Wintour, who has been editor of Vogue for almost 20 years.

The last time she was asked about rumours she was planning to quit the magazine business she replied tersely she had no plans to leave Vogue.
